Rotary drum dryers

Rotating drum – or rotary – dryers consist of a drum, several metres in length and ~2 m in diameter, which is inclined at 3–4° to the horizontal and rotates around its axis at a speed of 4-8 RPM. The drum is fitted with internal structures (fins, paddles or blades) which agitate and break up the sludge solids and help them pass along the length of the drum while being dried by a stream of warm air passing along the length of the drum.
